LACAR. San Martin´s Lake.

Not only Lacar is one of the lakes that deploy its scenic and recreational opportunities in the city. There are other, relatively nearby, offering diversity worthy of being included in the list of pins to make trips from San Martin de los Andes.

Lake Lacar is in argentina in the Neuquen province. It has elongated shape, in clear direction east to west. As most of the Patagonian lakes, is glacial. It is in a deep valley, whose party is not flooded the east is called Vega de Maipú, which is the coastal town of San Martin de los Andes. It measures about 29 km long by an average of 2 km wide, its maximum depth is 280 m in front of the Cerro fans.

Both sectors have both coasts, with beaches, although mostly sectors sharply steep, with gullies that closed the valley, because of their aforementioned glacial.

Evidence of glacial activity that occurred during the last ice age of Pleistocene can be found at the Cerro fans or the Cuesta of Pius Proto, a moraine front.

At its southern margin is the tourist village of Quila Quina, with beautiful homes and other beaches used by residents and tourists in summer, despite the temperature of the waters around 12 ° C, but the best time to delve in the waters of Lac is in February where the water temperature can reach 22 ° C.

The lake empties into the sea Chilean across the river Hua-Hum. The westernmost part of the lake, is called Nonthué Lake, about 4 km long, although it is not separated from the main body of the lake.

The northern margin in its western half bordered by gravel road that connects San Martin de los Andes with Pirehueico (Chile) through the passage Hua-Hum, and the eastern part of the southern margin is bordered by the beginning of the Way of Seven Lakes, in the National Route 234 (Argentina), which connects with Villa La Angostura.

Lake Lacar is inside of the Lanin National Park.

The entire western sector of southern margin is a natural reserve, guarded by National Parks of Argentina to conserve their natural environment, characterized by the Andean Patagonian forest and valdiviana jungle.

The lake also has some islands, including “Isla Santa Teresita”, “Isla de Los Patos” and known “Islita beachfront of Trompul”.

The navigation on the lake is controlled by the Naval Prefecture of Argentina, there you can take a ride on a modern catamaran that travels the two lakes (Lacar and Nonthué) sailing during the day in high season.
